High 5 Café | Build Your Home Right Even Without an Engineering Background

On 27 March (Friday), the first 2026 session of NEXT Park × High 5 Cafe was successfully held at NEXT Park in Auckland, New Zealand.

Featuring the theme “Building Better Homes with Clearer Decisions: Understanding Construction Without an Engineering Background”, the session invited Ms. Ling Yang, Director and Legal Representative of Subco, as the keynote speaker to share practical insights into construction cost management, project transparency, and smarter decision-making.

Drawing on multiple real-world residential construction cases, Ms. Yang highlighted that building a home is fundamentally a complex system engineering project. Only by breaking the process down into clear and manageable components can homeowners and developers effectively reduce risks and make informed decisions.

She introduced Subco’s real-time cost transparency system, a digital solution designed to connect homeowners, designers, and contractors, enabling refined management throughout the entire construction lifecycle:

  • At the early planning stage: Professional cost modelling helps clients establish realistic budgets and understand the true financial requirements of their projects.
  • During project execution: Digital monitoring tools provide real-time visibility into progress, variations, and potential risks, allowing timely adjustments before issues escalate.
  • For approvals and quality management: Integrated online data and documentation systems improve transparency, support council approval processes, and enhance overall project control.

As a technology solution provider specialising in construction cost control and transparency management, Subco is committed to helping small-scale developers and self-build homeowners navigate New Zealand’s complex construction environment, where strict regulations and information gaps often create challenges.

Through digital innovation, Subco aims to empower clients to “Build better, Know every cost.”

The session provided participants with a deeper understanding of the challenges behind residential construction, including budgeting uncertainty, project management complexity, contractor coordination, and approval processes.

During the interactive discussion, attendees shared their experiences and raised questions regarding construction planning, cost control, project risks, and how technology can improve communication between different stakeholders.

Many participants noted that the session offered valuable practical insights and helped them better understand how digital tools can create greater transparency and confidence throughout the building journey.

NEXT Park × High 5 Cafe will continue to provide an open and professional platform for knowledge sharing, collaboration, and resource connection through its “Space + Incubation + Investment” model.

By bringing together entrepreneurs, industry experts, investors, and innovators, the platform aims to promote collaboration across industries and support the integration of technology, assets, and capital.

Looking ahead, NEXT Park × High 5 Cafe will continue to explore opportunities across technology innovation, sustainable development, business growth, and cross-border cooperation — working together with more partners to create new possibilities.
